37-Year-Old Man Dies at TVK Rally in Salem, Sparking Political Row

A 37-year-old man died after collapsing from chest pain at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) campaign rally in Salem during the 2024 Lok Sabha Election campaign period. The tragic death has triggered intense political criticism and a war of words between rival political parties regarding crowd safety and event management.

The deceased, who was a known heart patient, collapsed at the venue after experiencing chest pain during the public gathering. The event was organized by the TVK, a political party founded by Vijay, as part of its election campaign efforts in the region.

Following the incident, rival political parties, including the All India Anna Divada Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), questioned the arrangements made by the TVK. Both parties raised concerns over whether proper safety protocols and medical facilities were in place to handle the large crowd.

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) also joined the criticism, raising concerns about the potential for fatalities at political rallies in the lead-up to the elections. The DMK questioned the overall safety of such events during the high-stakes campaign period.

In response to the mounting criticism from the DMK, AIADMK, and BJP, the TVK defended its event planning. The party stated that they had explicitly advised individuals who were unwell or suffering from pre-existing health conditions against attending the rally.

The clash highlights the growing political friction in Tamil Nadu as the TVK, DMK, AIADMK, and BJP navigate the campaign period, with crowd safety now becoming a central point of debate among the parties.
