25-Year-Old Dies by Suicide Near Mahindra City Over Online Loan App Debt

A 25-year-old man died by suicide at his residence near Mahindra City in Chengalpet on Wednesday after suffering severe financial stress due to unpaid loans. The Singaperumalkoil police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The deceased was identified as Manikandan. Police said they are probing whether debt, including money borrowed through online lending apps and financial losses incurred in trading, drove the young man to take the extreme step.

On Wednesday, Manikandan was left home alone when his parents went to a hospital. Upon returning to the residence, his parents found the house locked from the inside. They sought the help of neighbours to open the door, after which they discovered Manikandan dead inside the house.

The police recovered a suicide note from the residence during their response. In the note, Manikandan reportedly stated that he had borrowed around ₹50,000 from multiple sources, including an online lending app. He detailed that he was unable to repay the loan amount along with the mounting interest charges, which had placed him under severe financial distress.

Officers from the Singaperumalkoil police station recovered the body from the scene and sent it for a postmortem examination. A case has been registered by the police, and further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
