20 Tamil Nadu Police Officers Conferred Independence Day Medals

CHENNAI — The Government of India has conferred prestigious service medals on 20 Tamil Nadu Police personnel on the eve of Independence Day 2026 in recognition of their exemplary dedication and service record.

According to an official release issued by the Office of the Director General of Police and Head of Police Force in Chennai, the national honours include both distinguished service and meritorious service recognitions.

The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) was conferred upon three senior police officers for their outstanding career achievements. The recipients are K. Ramachandran, Additional Superintendent of Police, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Viruthunagar; J. Vijai Anand, Additional Superintendent of Police, ‘Q’ Branch CID, Headquarters, Chennai; and S. Kumar, Assistant Commandant, Tamil Nadu Special Police IX Battalion, Manimut.

In addition to the distinguished service honours, the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) was awarded to 17 police personnel across various ranks. The meritorious service awards recognise sustained devotion to duty and exemplary records maintained by the personnel throughout their police careers.

The recognitions were formally announced as part of the nationwide Independence Day honours list released by the central government.
