190 abandoned vehicles removed from St. Thomas Mount roadsides

On June 19, 2026, the Greater Chennai Police and the Greater Chennai Corporation conducted a joint operation to remove 190 abandoned vehicles from roadsides within the S1 St. Thomas Mount police station limits in Chennai. The seized vehicles were subsequently shifted directly to the premises of the S1 St. Thomas Mount police station.
The local authorities initiated the clearance drive after observing that the vehicles had been left parked along the roadsides for a prolonged period. Over time, these abandoned vehicles had become major obstructions, hindering regular public movement and disrupting the flow of traffic in the St. Thomas Mount area.
In an effort to reunite the vehicles with their rightful owners, the details of all 190 removed vehicles have been compiled and uploaded online. According to an official press release, these details are now available on the official website of the Greater Chennai Corporation for public viewing.
The press release stated that owners who wish to reclaim their vehicles must approach the S1 St. Thomas Mount police station. The authorities have set a strict deadline, requiring owners to make their claims within 15 days from the date of the official announcement.
For any vehicles that remain unclaimed after the stipulated 15-day period, the authorities will proceed with disposal. The press release added that these unclaimed vehicles will be disposed of through an official e-auction process. This public auction will be carried out in accordance with standard legal procedures.
This joint action by the Greater Chennai Police and the Greater Chennai Corporation highlights ongoing efforts to clear public roads and improve pedestrian and vehicular safety within the S1 St. Thomas Mount police station limits. By removing these 190 vehicles, the authorities have addressed a long-standing issue that had impacted the daily commute of local residents.
