19-Year-Old Engineering Student Found Dead in University Hostel in Enathur

A 19-year-old third-year engineering student allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room at a private university in Enathur near Kancheepuram. The deceased has been identified as Nikitha, a native of Andhra Pradesh who was pursuing an Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) degree.

The incident came to light late Thursday evening when hostel mates and staff checked on her room. According to the police, Nikitha had remained inside and had not come out of her room for two days. The hostel authorities were alerted after a foul smell began emanating from the locked quarters. Upon breaking open the door, they found her dead inside.

The Kancheepuram Taluk police were informed of the incident, following which officers arrived at the university hostel to inspect the scene. Police officials have registered a case regarding the death and have initiated a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Preliminary inquiries conducted by the police suggest that Nikitha took the extreme step due to personal reasons.

The discovery of the student's death triggered unrest on the campus, with fellow students staging a protest outside the college premises. The protesting students gathered to demand a swift, transparent, and thorough probe into the matter.

In response to the demonstration, police personnel were deployed at the university campus to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents. Senior district police officers visited the spot to speak with the students, assuring them that appropriate steps and necessary legal action would be taken. Further investigation by the Kancheepuram Taluk police is currently underway.
